FAQs

We don’t expect to answer all your questions here, but we have highlighted some common questions below. Feel free to message us if you have any other questions or book in for your free consultation.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

How does anti-wrinkle treatment work?

Our anti-wrinkle treatments involve a neurotoxin protein being injected into targeted areas of your face and neck. We use BOTOX which is a natural substance that works to relax nerve impulses. When Botulinum Toxin is injected into targeted facial muscles, nerve impulses are temporarily relaxed. Resulting in muscles then not able to contract, which in turn prevents wrinkles and lines from being forced. Over time, this softens skin and gives a naturally youthful appearance.

What does the treatment entail?

Your treatment will start with a consultation with our nurse prescriber, this allows you to ask questions and discuss any concerns you might have. Olivia will review your areas of concerns and together we can determine the right anti-wrinkle treatments for you. Once you return for your appointment, you will be treated in a clinically safe and hygienic environment, located at Rose Beauty in Harrogate. We’ll then provide you with all the relevant after care advise and details of what you should expect. A ‘review’ appointment is booked for 2-4 weeks post treatment, allowing us to review your results and give a top up is required.

When do I start to see results after treatment?

A definite answer to this question varies for every patient. Some people see results as quickly as two days post treatment. Most commonly however, the effects usually become visible 2-5 days post treatment and for the full effect, allow 2 weeks. You have the option to attend your review appointment for your practitioner to review the results and top up if needed.

Is there any ‘down’ time after receiving anti-wrinkle injections?

No, you can continue with your day as you would. We advise to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot showers, baths and the consumption of alcohol for 48 hours as this can interfere with the body’s natural healing process. Also avoid rubbing the injection sites and refrain from having any facials or applying make-up on that day as it can increase the chances of infection.

How long will the treatment last?

A definite answer to this question varies for every patient. The effects of your anti-wrinkle treatment are usually visible for between 3-6 months, at which point you may decide to book in again.

Are there any side effects?

At present, there are no known long-term side effects of having anti-wrinkle treatment. In the shorter term you may experience slight bruising, swelling and redness at the point of injection. Olivia is trained in certain methods to try avoiding bruising, but it will always be a risk as everyone is different. Small headaches post treatments have been noted as a side effect, this can be relieved by taking paracetamol.

Are there any risks?

Whilst we treat targeted areas to temporarily relax the nerve impulses, there’s always a slight risk the injection may also impact on nearby muscle groups. For example: when treating crows-feet, there is a risk of causing eyebrows to droop. If this was to happen, it would be in effect for 2-3 weeks. If you suffer with any blood-clotting disorders, you would be at a slighter higher risk of post treatment bruising. Similarly, anyone taking anti-inflammatory or anti-coagulant medication is at similar risk. Before consenting to any treatment, all risks are explained in thorough on the consent forms and information sheet, as well as on consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask the nurse prescriber for any further information.

Dermal Fillers

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers work to smooth the deep lines in the face which appear as wrinkles as well as an option to add volume which has been lost in certain areas since elastin and collagen production has dropped. Dermal fillers are able to enhance the appearance of the face by adding ‘lift’.

What is Hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that occurs naturally in the human body. Injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) is a type of temporary dermal filler. In the skin hyaluronic acid attracts water, which allows the skin to become more hydrated, maintaining elasticity in the process. HA also helps skin stretch, reducing skin wrinkles and lines.

What brand of dermal fillers do we use?

ORA use Teosyal products. Teoxane is the most dynamic filler on the market as there is a filler for every use. Their RHA range has been developed to adapt to facial movements rather than sitting static, therefore creating the most natural look. The decision made on which filler is best suited for you is made upon consultation. It is dependent on what your desired outcome is, your unique lips and what is right for them to achieve the most ‘natural’ result.

What is involved with dermal filler treatments?

On consultation, Olivia your practitioner will review your face and areas of concern. She will provide an honest and ethical assessment and advise which filler and how much will help achieve your desired results.

When will I start to see results?

You will begin to see results straight away post treatment. For lip fillers, please bear in mind, that it is normal for them to swell for the first 5 days and after 1 week you should begin to see the full effect of your dermal filler treatment. Some patients will experience more swelling and bruising around their injection sites, this will take up to 48 hours to settle.

Will the treatment hurt?

The administration of dermal filler’s does not hurt, although some clients may experience a minor sting during the treatment. The use of fine needles will help to minimise any discomfort, we also provide numbing agents prior to injections to ensure as much comfort as possible.

For lip filler injections, unfortunately slight discomfort can be expected. However, everyone has different tolerance of pain. Our lips are alongside lots of blood vessels and have lots of nerve endings, which in turn can mean that having our lips injected can be more sensitive than any other part of the face.

Are there any side effects?

There is a minimal risk of slight bruising, redness or/and swelling around the injection site, although this can be soothed by applying Arnica cream to the affected areas. If you feel some post-treatment soreness or tenderness, you can relieve this with paracetamol.

What can I do to prior to treatment to minimise side effects?

Avoid drinking alcohol or taking any medication that may thin the blood such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen for 24 hours before and after treatment.

How long does dermal fillers last for?

The effects of dermal filler can vary from person to person. Typically, TEOXANE dermal filler treatments last between 9-18 months.

Can dermal fillers be removed?

Yes, most dermal fillers based on Hyaluronic Acid can be dissolved if you’re not happy with the results. We can inject an enzyme called hyaluronidase that safely breaks down the filler. For our patient’s best interest, we sometimes advise to dissolve any old, migrated filler on consultation if we think this is required, this will also help you achieve the most natural results. Filler migration is where the filler, which is injected into one area, shifts to another area, making it look strange and unnatural.
